WOMEN'S PROGRAM

FRIENDS OUTSIDE IN SONOMA COUNTY offers the Women's Circle program to women in the Jail. It is a gender-specific program, provided in a once-weekly, two-hour, 8-week series format several times a year.

Motivational interviewing is a mainstay of the program and is used effectively throughout the curriculum, allowing group members to stretch their critical thinking skills, assess their current situation, and come to their own conclusions about where their lives are headed and what changes they might like to make to improve their circumstances.

Through creative projects and deep discussions, the women are given opportunities to build problem-solving, self-management, and coping skills, and to learn to build positive relationships and improve their communication skills.

The curriculum covers many topics with which the women in the jail struggle, such as dealing with abusive relationships, authority figures, and self-image.
